The territory is the result of lengthy volcanic activity,
developed from the end of Pliocene until 10.000 years
ago. Lapillus and ashes created a fertile environment,
rich of tufaceous rocks and other types of rocks like
peperino and nenfro. These rocks, carved by streams,
created vertiginous gorges and ravines. Archaeo-trekking
hikes allow you to discover untouched landscapes.

The vegetation
|
 |
The Mediterranean vegetation is supported by the dry
and warm climate: here grow luxuriant live oaks, poplars,
walnut trees, hazelnut trees, oak chestnuts and oak
trees, with a brushwood of hollies, brooms, ferns. There
are also a lot of flowers like primroses, periwinkles,

The fauna
|
|
The crags are the perfect habitat for nocturnal and
daytime birds of prey, like owls, barn owls, kites,
tawny owls. Waters offer protection for nest-building
of carps, tenches, coregones, perches, eels, but also
of sparrows, herons, ducks and other migratory species.
Between the grooves of reeds find hideaway frogs, toads
and water snakes. The woods give hospitality to wild
boars, badgers, porcupines, roe deers, foxes and hedgehogs.
