Where is from the name Tuscia?
It's a linguistic translation of the name that the Romans
used to call this people, Etrusci.
Originally the name suggested a very wide territory, that
the various historical vicissitudes divided into three great
areas, as numerous medieval documents relate:

The "Roman Tuscia" (the modern Northern
Lazio with the ancient papal province of theS. Peter Patrimony,
the modern province of Northern Rome until the lake of Bracciano);
the "Ducal Tuscia", which included the territories
of the Lazio subjected to the Dukedom of Spoleto; the "Lombard
Tuscia" (more or less the modern Tuscany), including
the territories subjected to the Lombards and forming the
Dukedom of Tuscia.
Today Tuscia is the province of Viterbo, with the wonderful
landscape of the lake Bolsena, the Vulsini mountains, the
lake of Vico and a lot of other beautiful places...
In this photo the lake of Bolsena is framed from the shores
of Marta; to the horizon you can get a glimpse of the volcanic
promontory of Capodimonte, the promontory of Bisenzo and the
island Bisentina.
